There are many options available for Queenslanders in terms of how to spend their Holiday. Hiring a campervan could be a very economical and enjoyable experience but owning a camper does not make sense for most families because operating and maintaining a camper year round is expensive and only makes sense for the family that spends many weekends out in the country, not for the family that does a two or three week holiday once a year. Hiring a van for those few weeks, however, makesgreat sense. Maintenance and mileage is paid for when the van is hired so the owner simply has to worry about petrol or diesel for the vehicle.
One of the other major benefits of camper vans for hire is that they allow freeing up money for other fun holiday leisure activities. Whereas the hiring fee may seem expensive compared to renting a larger saloon for touring the country, keep in mind that the camper van is going to also serve as your lodgings, not to mention giving you the ability to cook your own food in many cases. While the living preparations may not be ideal, the flexibility and cost savings over paying for hotel rooms while on holiday make the entire experience more fun.
Let us consider some of the features to look for in a camper van. One of the often neglected features is the efficiency and performance of the van. In general, diesel engines will cost less to operate and will have the ability to actually have a little passing power to overtake slow trucks on the express high ways. Finding a camper van that offers a powerful engine, but one that still gives good fuel economy, is important.
Another feature to request in your hired camper van is to make sure that the van will hold your family. Most camper vans are designed around a family of four, but
some can accommodate a couple more people if need be. If you plan to cook, make sure that the camper van has a refrigerator or ice chest, as well as facilities for
cooking such as a cook top built in. Even if the camper does not have a cooking facilities, there should be sufficient storage available for a portable cook top. On
this note, some of the vans now have awnings that can be extended out from the side of the camper van, providing a covered area that is shaded and also offers shelter from severe weather.
Campervan hire is a popular and affordable option to explore the sights and sounds of Australia. With your own campervan, you can set your own pace and stop when and where you like. You are not fixed to a set itinerary and you have the convenience of sleeping and cooking facilities onboard. Camper van hire is also economical compared to separate accommodation and transport, particularly for large families or groups.
Driving a motorhome in a foreign land can be daunting, but there are some basic driving tips that we can offer to help keep you safe on the road. In Australia, we drive on the left-hand side of the road. The driver and passengers must use seatbelts at all times, so it is against the law to walk around the motorhome while it is in motion. All drivers must carry a valid driver's licence and be at least 21 years or older (some motorhome companies make exceptions for 18+ drivers). Using a hand-held mobile phone while driving is an offence so if you do need to make or take a call, pull over to the side of the road to make your call.
